About this plugin
VMR Essentials from Slate Digital is a modular channel strip plugin that addresses a fundamental workflow problem: the time spent assembling and reconfiguring processing chains. Built around a drag-and-drop architecture, it lets you construct custom signal chains by arranging pre-built modules in any order, then save complete configurations for instant recall across projects.
The plugin's core toolkit comprises six processing modules. The FG-2A delivers smooth, musical compression suited to vocals, bass, and melodic sources, while The Monster provides aggressive dynamic control for sources requiring transparent or colored smashing. The FD-DS 902 handles de-essing with enough precision to tame sibilance without audible artifacts. Revival functions as a presence enhancer, adding clarifying highs and warmth in the low mids. The FG-A offers analog-modeled EQ with the character of vintage American consoles. A Trimmer module handles gain staging and makeup gain.

This approach acknowledges that most mixing decisions involve repeatable patterns: drums typically benefit from specific compression and EQ moves, vocals from de-essing followed by presence shaping. By packaging common chains and making them instantly rearrangeable, Essentials reduces decision fatigue while maintaining sonic flexibility.
The preset library, developed with Grammy-winning engineers and regularly expanded, provides actionable starting points rather than gimmicks. For mixing engineers working across multiple genres or managing high-volume sessions, VMR Essentials functions as practical shorthand for professional mixing fundamentals. It's most valuable for producers valuing consistency and workflow speed without sacrificing sound quality or control.
