About this plugin
Slate Digital's Chorus D Bundle delivers two distinct interpretations of the 1979 Chorus effect that defined the sound of post-punk and new wave production. The SD-D Chorus provides a faithful hardware emulation, preserving the original's characteristic warmth and subtle modulation without deviation. For engineers seeking historical accuracy, this straightforward implementation captures the effect's gentle spatial enhancement without the aggressive pitch artifacts common to lesser chorus designs.
The Custom D Chorus builds on this foundation by exposing hidden parameters and extending the modulation architecture beyond the original specification. This version serves producers who want the vintage character intact but need expanded creative control for contemporary production contexts. The distinction between these two modules acknowledges that authenticity and flexibility need not be mutually exclusive.

Within Slate's VMR ecosystem, these plugins address a specific technical challenge: generating convincing stereo width and depth from mono sources without relying on heavy detuning. The algorithms preserve tonal integrity while creating genuine spatial movement, making them particularly valuable for vocal processing, bass enhancement, and keyboard layering where maintaining definition remains critical.
The Chorus D Bundle appeals to engineers working across genres where depth and dimension matter more than obvious modulation effects. Whether maintaining fidelity to classic recordings or designing modern productions with vintage sensibility, both modules perform with the restraint and musicality that elevated the original hardware to cult status. These implementations represent competent emulation work that respects both the source material and contemporary production demands.
