About this plugin
ROLI's Lo-Fi Hip Hop expansion pack extends Equator2's MPE-enabled instrument library with a focused toolkit for downtempo production. The collection comprises 54 standard MIDI presets and 54 ROLI-specific presets optimized for the Equator2 sampler and ROLI hardware controllers, delivering textural sources particularly suited to contemporary lo-fi aesthetics.
The sonic palette centers on deliberately degraded source material. Vinyl crackle and tape saturation are integrated throughout, providing the harmonic coloration and high-frequency character essential to lo-fi's nostalgic appeal without requiring external processing chains. Electric piano samples carry notable tape compression artifacts, while sampled guitar elements retain finger noise and pick texture. This curation toward "imperfection" distinguishes the pack from cleaner contemporary sample libraries.

The melodic and harmonic content leans toward mellow pads and warm synthesizer tones with restricted frequency ranges, encouraging restraint in arrangement. Bass presets emphasize sub-harmonic presence over transient definition, suiting the genre's preference for cushioned low-end weight. Layering these elements produces the characteristically soft, study-friendly soundscapes lo-fi demands.
Best suited for producers working within lo-fi, chillhop, and adjacent downtempo genres, the expansion serves competent practitioners seeking quality samples rather than beginning producers needing foundational education. ROLI's MPE implementation allows nuanced modulation capabilities unavailable in standard MIDI workflows, though realizing these advantages requires familiarity with MPE-compatible hardware.
The pack occupies a logical position within ROLI's expansion ecosystem, offering thematic coherence and production-ready sources for a clearly defined sonic direction.
