About this plugin
The Chroma plugin represents a faithful digital reconstruction of the 1982 Rhodes-ARP synthesizer, engineered by Cherry Audio with direct access to original hardware specifications and SysEx compatibility. Rather than a conventional effects processor, this is a fully featured 16-voice polyphonic synthesizer that captures the analog architecture of a landmark instrument through meticulous component modeling.
The plugin's architecture centers on 16 voltage-controlled oscillators paired with 32 envelope generators, allowing complex modulation chains across 16 preconfigured signal paths. Users can select configurations ranging from basic VCO-VCF-VCA topologies to advanced setups incorporating oscillator sync, filter frequency modulation, ring modulation, and serial filter arrangements. This modularity defines the Chroma's sonic character - capable of producing both warm, organic pad textures and aggressive, metallic timbres depending on patch complexity.

The decision to enable direct SysEx import from original hardware is significant; producers working with legacy Chroma patches gain immediate access to their sound libraries without manual recreation. The plugin extends original functionality through the virtual Chroma Expander, expanding sonic possibilities beyond the hardware's constraints.
Best suited for producers and sound designers seeking authentic 1980s synthesis within a modern DAW workflow. The Chroma excels in electronic music, progressive contexts, and scoring applications where distinctive analog character and precise modulation control matter. While the learning curve reflects the original's complexity, the payoff justifies exploration for those pursuing specific tonal territories the hardware defined - territory that remains difficult to access through other contemporary tools.
