About this plugin
PSP MasterComp stands as a transparent dynamics processor engineered specifically for mastering and high-fidelity mixing applications. Built on 64-bit double-precision processing with PSP's proprietary double-sampled (FAT) architecture, the plugin maintains clarity even when pushed to extreme compression ratios or operated at high sample rates - a critical advantage when working on masters where artifacts become immediately apparent.
The tool ships in two configurations: the full-featured MasterComp for mastering duties and the streamlined MicroComp for track and bus processing. MasterComp's appeal lies in its comprehensive control set, including over-threshold compression and expansion, advanced sidechain filtering, mid-side processing, and channel linking options that grant surgical control over stereo dynamics. The integrated brick-wall output limiter with automatic release provides essential protection during mastering sessions, while the mix control allows transparent blending between processed and dry signals - a feature that separates serious mastering tools from mixing utilities.

The optional Smooth Level Detector algorithm further reduces distortion, while selectable processing modes (Mid, Side, Left, Right, or Stereo) accommodate the varied demands of stereo material. Contextual metering in PPM and VU formats provides actionable feedback without cognitive overload.
PSP MasterComp occupies the premium tier of dynamics processing, competing directly with tools like Fabfilter Pro-C and TC Electronic M6000 derivatives. Its particular strength lies in preserving the character of source material while controlling dynamics - it compresses rather than transforms. For mastering engineers and meticulous mixing professionals who demand transparency and precise control, it represents intelligent investment rather than feature collection.
