About this plugin
PSP FETpressor is a meticulously modeled FET compressor plugin that captures the sonic signature of classic 1970s hardware units. The plugin employs feedback-style compression architecture, delivering the fast attack characteristics and musical compression behavior that made hardware FET compressors indispensable in professional studios for decades.
The core compression engine offers adjustable ratio control with an internal sidechain high-pass filter to manage low-frequency pumping - a critical feature when processing material with significant bass content. The ability to select individual channels and toggle link mode provides flexibility for stereo processing or independent channel control as needed. Response time is notably quick, making FETpressor well-suited for sources requiring instantaneous gain reduction, particularly vocals, drums, and bass guitar.

What distinguishes FETpressor beyond standard compression parameters is its parallel compression capability via dry signal blend, allowing engineers to layer uncompressed material with the compressed signal without requiring separate mixer tracks. The included makeup amplifier and output transformer emulations add harmonic coloration and subtle saturation even when the compressor operates at unity ratio, lending character that extends utility beyond dedicated compression tasks.
FETpressor occupies a legitimate position within the landscape of plugin compressors, offering authentic FET topology without the CPU demands of convolution-based modeling. The sidechain filtering and transformer emulation distinguish it from simpler FET approximations. Engineers familiar with hardware FET units will recognize the sonic behavior; those new to the topology will find it particularly effective on transient-rich and dynamic sources where natural musical compression is preferred over transparent gain reduction.
