About this plugin
Essential Beats Production Techniques Part 1 is a comprehensive educational course from Producertech that addresses one of electronic music production's most critical foundations: professional drum construction. Rather than a plugin, this is a structured four-hour video curriculum taught by Simon Shackleton, a producer with demonstrable expertise in contemporary house music production.
The course takes a systematic, decision-focused approach to building complete grooves. Shackleton begins with kick design, demonstrating how to layer samples with sub-bass synthesis to achieve punchy, resonant low ends suitable for Jackin' House and Tech House contexts. The instruction progresses logically through hat selection, snare layering, and clap construction before addressing the textural elements that distinguish professional productions from amateur efforts.

Particularly valuable is Shackleton's dual methodology for clap creation: an accessible manual approach involving sample recording and clip editing, alongside a faster plugin-based alternative. This pedagogical choice serves both beginner and experienced producers. The course then explores percussion layering strategies using jackin' loops, shakers, and tambourine - with emphasis on how to deploy these elements selectively rather than defaulting to constant saturation.
The final module addresses production depth through what Shackleton calls "layers of intrigue" - techniques for using insert and send effects to create anticipation and dynamic interest during fills and breakdowns. This framework reflects contemporary professional standards in electronic music production.
The course includes project files, sample downloads from Loopmasters, and lifetime access to video content. For producers seeking to elevate drum programming from competent to compelling, this structured approach offers substantial practical value.
