About this plugin
The COMP.TWO is a software emulation of Rockruepel's all-tube vari-mu compressor, developed in collaboration with mastering engineer Fab Dupont. Unlike hybrid designs that compromise with transistor stages, this is a pure tube topology using output tubes derived from classic Altec and RS124 circuits paired with Sowter transformers. The result is compression with genuine harmonic coloration that contributes to mix cohesion beyond simple gain reduction.
The plugin prioritizes modern workflow demands that vintage hardware couldn't accommodate. It operates with higher headroom and faster response than its predecessors, with a sidechain architecture refined through two decades of development and user feedback. The inclusion of an Amp Only mode addresses a real requirement from working professionals who recognize that great compressors are equally valuable as tone shapers independent of their dynamic control function.

COMP.TWO suits mastering applications, mix bus processing, and any scenario where transparent gain reduction matters less than imparting musical compression character. It performs particularly well on drums, bass, and acoustic sources that benefit from the gentle, glue-like cohesion that tube vari-mu design naturally provides. The soft-knee behavior characteristic of this topology makes it forgiving on material that demands subtlety.
Among comparable software emulations, COMP.TWO distinguishes itself through adherence to the actual circuit topology rather than simplified approximations. It demands more CPU than stripped-down alternatives, but serious mixing engineers accustomed to hardware compression will recognize the sonic authenticity as worthwhile investment.
