About this plugin
The SPL De-Verb Plus represents a refined digital interpretation of the original Transient Designer hardware, focusing specifically on decay reduction through Differential Envelope Technology. Unlike conventional dynamic processors that respond to signal level, this approach operates independently of amplitude, allowing consistent reverb and room tone attenuation regardless of whether a source peaks at -20dB or 0dB.
The plugin's single-knob operation belies its effectiveness. By reducing the sustain phase of any sound, it tackles problems that gates cannot: shortening tom resonance, controlling snare ring, and diminishing room reflections with musical character rather than abrupt suppression. Brainworx's modeling work ensures behavior that closely mirrors the hardware unit's envelope shaping, a critical factor for those familiar with the original's sonic signature.

The addition of dry/wet control and output gain compensation addresses practical mixing concerns, while the soft peak limiter prevents digital clipping during aggressive processing. This combination creates a forgiving workflow suitable for both mixing and live applications.
De-Verb Plus occupies a distinct niche. It's not a gate; it won't eliminate problems entirely. Rather, it surgically shortens decay characteristics with surprising musicality, making it invaluable for drum replacement, source isolation, and troubleshooting acoustically problematic recordings. Engineers working with close-miked drums, vocals recorded in reflective spaces, or material requiring perceived microphone distance adjustment will find immediate utility.
For those accustomed to hardware Transient Designers, this plugin delivers familiar processing in plugin form. For others, it represents an unconventional but genuinely useful approach to room treatment that outperforms traditional solutions in most practical scenarios.
