About this plugin
The SPL Attacker Plus is a transient shaping plugin that isolates and amplifies the attack phase of audio signals independent of overall level. Built on Brainworx's Differential Envelope Technology, it models SPL's hardware Transient Designer, one of the few tools that genuinely redefined dynamic processing by decoupling transient manipulation from compression's gain-riding mechanics.
The plugin operates through a single Attack knob that amplifies initial transients without regard to the sustain or tail of a sound, making it exceptionally useful for clarifying dense mixes or adding definition to source material that lacks punch. A soft peak limiter prevents overshoots, while the dry/wet control enables parallel processing techniques within a single instance. This combination gives engineers surgical precision without sacrificing musical character.

Where Attacker Plus excels is in selective frequency-independent mixing. Rather than EQ-based separation, it achieves instrument articulation by enhancing what's already there - the natural attack envelope. Kick drums gain impact, acoustic guitars cut through without harshness, and loop-based productions recover dynamic clarity. The apparent microphone distance can also be adjusted by modulating attack values, offering a mixing tool that works orthogonally to traditional approaches.
Sonically, Brainworx's modeling demonstrates no perceptible lag or artifacts, with the algorithm tracking closely to the original hardware. For producers and engineers comfortable with transient-based mixing concepts, Attacker Plus becomes indispensable. It occupies a niche that few plugins address as effectively - essential for anyone mixing at lower levels while maintaining track separation and impact.
