About this plugin
The Mäag Audio MAGNUM-K, modeled by Brainworx, brings a dual-stage compression architecture to your DAW with the musical sensibility of a purpose-built hardware unit. At its core sit two serial compressor sections - the MAGNUM COMP and K COMP - each addressing different dynamic control requirements without the aggressive character typical of stacked compression chains. The design philosophy prioritizes musicality over transparency, making it particularly effective on sources requiring presence and definition rather than invisibility.
What distinguishes the MAGNUM-K is its integrated parallel EQ featuring Mäag's signature AIR BAND, a carefully tuned presence peak that adds clarity without harshness when blended back with the dry signal. This approach yields dimension and articulation on vocals, drums, and instruments that respond well to parallel processing. The soft limiter adds a safety net for peaks without introducing distortion artifacts.

Brainworx's implementation elevates the original hardware through stereo processing modes (L/R and M/S), 20 distinct analog channel emulations via their TMT technology, and workflow enhancements like stereo width control and mono-maker functionality. The INPUT ATTN and MAKEUP GAIN architecture provides transparent gain staging alongside detailed sidechain options for surgical control.
This plugin excels on individual tracks requiring tonal enhancement alongside dynamic management, particularly vocals, bass, and drums. It's equally capable as a mix-bus processor for cohesion and perceived loudness gains. Engineers seeking compression with character rather than clinical control will find it indispensable.
