About this plugin
The ChannelX consolidates three of Tobias Lindell's 500-series designs into a single plugin strip that functions as a complete, colorful signal chain. Rather than merely stacking emulations, Plugin Alliance has crafted a tool that captures the cohesive sonic philosophy underlying Lindell's discrete, transformer-coupled approach across preamp, EQ, and compression stages.
The signal flow begins with the 6X-500 preamp, which adds gain staging flexibility alongside the harmonic saturation characteristic of Lindell's hybrid amplifier topology. The included high and low pass filters with variable slopes provide essential cleanup without forcing you into fixed frequency choices. This feeds naturally into the 7X-500 limiter, a FET compressor modeled on the 1176 architecture but augmented with practical features like a sidechain high pass filter and mix control for parallel compression blending. The final stage brings the Pultec-inspired PEX-500 EQ, which excels at delivering the simultaneous boost and cut technique for which Pultec designs are prized, alongside its distinctly silky high-end character and notably punchy low-end response.

The ChannelX suits engineers seeking a cohesive, color-forward channel processing solution without the CPU overhead of chaining separate plugins. Its particular strength lies in handling sources that benefit from smooth gain staging and gentle harmonic enhancement rather than aggressive colorization. Vocals, bass, and drums respond particularly well to the combined transformer coupling and discrete circuitry character. While not suitable for transparent, clinical processing tasks, the ChannelX occupies an increasingly rare middle ground: sophisticated enough for professional mixes yet approachable for home studio work.
