About this plugin
Output's SUBSTANCE redefines bass synthesis by abandoning traditional subtractive design in favor of a three-layer hybrid approach. Each layer draws from distinct sonic sources: processed electric and acoustic bass recordings, brass section samples, and analog synthesizer textures. This foundation feeds into Output's most comprehensive engine to date, where the real sophistication emerges. Rather than static layering, SUBSTANCE employs intelligent blending through dedicated layer and global effects chains, multimode filters, and extensive modulation capabilities. The flux control system adds temporal evolution, while four macro faders provide intuitive real-time manipulation tailored to each preset.
The workflow balances immediacy with depth. The 300 included presets serve as starting points rather than endpoints, and the preset engine's smart tagging system streamlines navigation across diverse sonic territories. An advanced arpeggiator with monophonic and legato modes handles rhythmic duties, syncing seamlessly to your DAW's tempo. The rhythm page extends this functionality for more complex sequencing.

SUBSTANCE targets producers and engineers seeking professional low-end solutions without the complexity of managing multiple instances and external processing chains. It excels in modern electronic music production, hip-hop, and any context demanding sculptable, characterful bass that transcends typical synth limitations. The combination of organic source material with synthetic processing creates a tonal palette distinct from traditional bass plugins, positioning it as a genuinely alternative tool rather than incremental improvement.
