About this plugin
Output's FX Bundle represents a thoughtful curation of three distinct effect processors designed to address common production workflows: granular transformation, distortion shaping, and rhythmic manipulation. The bundle's centerpiece, Portal, implements granular synthesis in a musically-oriented framework rather than pursuing purely experimental territory. Unlike academic granular tools that often produce unpredictable results, Portal re-synthesizes audio with recognizable relationships to source material, making it suitable for substantive mixing applications rather than pure sound design. Time-stretching decoupled from pitch, scale-locked modulation, and a tempo-sync engine ensure results remain compositionally coherent across diverse session tempos.
Thermal handles the complementary role of saturation and distortion, providing harmonic coloration across the saturation spectrum. Movement addresses rhythmic processing, enabling time-based modulation patterns that can transform static elements into evolving textures. The 500+ included presets across five expansion packs serve as legitimate starting points rather than marketing filler, with particular strength in Portal's preset library reflecting years of design refinement.

This bundle proves most valuable for producers working across electronic music, hip-hop, and contemporary pop where granular effects have become standard compositional tools. Engineers accustomed to hardware multieffects units will recognize Portal's operational philosophy: accessible interface masking sophisticated control underneath. The bundle's integration with Output's ecosystem and preset sharing community provides long-term utility beyond initial purchase.
Relative to competitors like iZotope's Spectral Resynthesizer or Native Instruments' Reaktor, Portal occupies practical middle ground - more accessible than modular approaches, more musically guided than academic implementations.
