About this plugin
Nordic Metal Cello Crossgrade extends the foundation of Have Audio's Nørdic Cello with a specialized toolkit designed for heavy orchestration in contemporary scoring and metal production. This expansion pairs the original instrument's acoustic cello samples with a parallel distortion signal routed through dual high-gain amplifiers, offering independent control over both channels for seamless blending or isolation of tonal characteristics.
The sonic approach centers on playable power chord voicings and tempo-synced loops organized across eight keyswitches, providing immediate access to short snaps, pizzicato articulations, sustained tones, and three sets of looped material. The 370-plus cinematic phrases lean heavily toward the orchestral metal aesthetic popularized by Apocalyptica and contemporary film scores like Dune and Wonder Woman, where distorted strings function as textural anchors rather than traditional melodic elements.

Core processing includes a competent reverb engine with 82 convolution impulse responses, a host-synced loop system with independent tempo warping, and a five-mode arpeggiator extending up to 32 steps across four octaves. The effects chain addresses practical production needs: convolution reverb, delay, EQ, compression, saturation, chorus, phaser, and Leslie rotation, each offering three-control simplicity rather than deep parameter access.
This crossgrade is most valuable for composers and sound designers already invested in Nørdic Cello seeking expanded textural range without re-purchasing base content. The distortion pipeline delivers convincing processed cello tones suitable for hybrid orchestration, though users expecting pristine metal guitar tones should calibrate expectations toward string instrument characteristics, even heavily processed.
