About this plugin
NEON is UJAM's virtual drummer plugin purpose-built for nu disco, dance-pop, and house production. As a crossgrade for existing UJAM users, it offers a practical solution for producers seeking authentic vintage drum tones paired with modern, controllable grooves.
The plugin draws from legitimate source material: five acoustic drum kits recorded from original 1970s Ludwig and Rogers hardware. UJAM captured these in a small booth using period-appropriate microphones and outboard gear including Sennheiser MD 421 condensers and Neve 1073 preamps. This vintage recording foundation feeds into their Virtual Drummer engine, which applies contemporary mixing and processing controlled through six macro presets that range from "Snap" to "Glossy."

What distinguishes NEON from straightforward drum sample libraries is its rhythm engine, which delivers 690 grooves across 30 distinct nu disco and dance-pop styles. These aren't simply triggered loops; they're generated phrases designed for intros, verses, choruses, and fills that respond to your tempo and arrangement. The included "Real/Glam" slider provides meaningful tonal control, shifting the drum character from naturally recorded to heavily processed and punchy.
NEON functions as a specialized tool rather than a comprehensive drum solution. It excels when your production sits within its defined sonic territory - the tight, forward-heavy drum aesthetic that defined Chic and contemporary dance-pop. For producers working outside these styles, or those requiring extensive customization, traditional drum programming or broader virtual drummer platforms may prove more suitable.
The loyalty pricing makes this a reasonable addition for UJAM's existing user base seeking tempo-synced, genre-specific drums.
