Rather than sample playback or algorithmic generation, it models the playing style and tonal characteristics of a session drummer working within these genres, offering 690 grooves across 30 styles with genuine rhythmic variation and feel.

The sonic foundation derives from five original 1970s drum kits from Ludwig and Rogers, recorded in a controlled environment with era-appropriate microphones and outboard gear including Sennheiser MD 421 mics and Neve 1073 preamps. This vintage capture receives processing through UJAM's state-of-the-art mixing console architecture, controlled via six macro-based mix presets that range from natural to heavily processed.

NEON's central feature is a Real/Glam slider that continuously morphs the drum character from open and organic to snappy and compressed - a core tonal parameter defining nu disco's signature punch-forward aesthetic. The plugin provides separate outputs for close microphones and room mics, enabling flexible integration into contemporary mixing chains.

The grooves themselves emphasize forward, driving rhythmic feels with minimal note quantization, mimicking how human drummers sit slightly ahead of or behind the beat.
