About this plugin
Session Horns Pro represents a significant advancement in sampled horn libraries, delivering a 30 GB collection of contemporary brass instruments with legitimate studio utility. Native Instruments partnered with e-instruments to capture ten discrete instruments - three saxophones, two trombones, three trumpets, flugelhorn, and tuba - across 34 articulations with up to four velocity layers and round robins per patch.
The plugin's strength lies in its architectural flexibility. Users can construct custom horn sections with up to six instruments distributed across four voices, or bypass arrangement entirely and perform individual instruments with surgical detail. This dual approach accommodates both producers seeking authentic section textures and musicians prioritizing playable expressiveness. The Animator feature provides access to over 200 pre-arranged riffs, triggerable via keyswitch, which is genuinely useful for rapid composition and sketch work.

Session Horns Pro's core technical implementation focuses on legato behavior and voice allocation. The Smart Voice Split engine intelligently assigns notes to appropriate instruments within configured sections, while Legato Mode models real-world performance technique rather than simply crossfading samples. Integrated mixing tools - per-instrument compression, EQ, and effects alongside master-chain processing - enable final mixing without external processors.
The plugin occupies a middle ground between fully programmed brass libraries and more limited sample collections. It excels for contemporary music production, film scoring, and jazz arrangements where authentic articulation and responsive playback matter equally. For producers accustomed to detailed sound design workflows, the mixing integration and effects chain feel somewhat simplified, though sufficient for most professional contexts. The 30 GB footprint demands consideration, but translates to genuinely audible depth across articulations and dynamic range.
