About this plugin
Native Instruments' Faded Reels expansion brings a curated palette of lo-fi production tools designed for producers seeking authentic analog warmth without excessive processing chains. The collection prioritizes source material quality over plugin wizardry, delivering sounds that have been through deliberate degradation workflows - recorded to tape and resampled through classic hardware to capture the tonal characteristics that define contemporary lo-fi production.
The sonic foundation rests on fuzzy chord progressions, organic keyboard textures, and carefully degraded drum samples that sit comfortably in the midrange. Rather than relying on saturation and distortion plugins to manufacture character, these sounds arrive with inherent coloration from their recording and resampling process. This approach appeals to producers who find standard sample libraries too sterile and prefer working with material that already possesses intentional imperfection.

The expansion functions as both a sample library and textural toolkit for MPC hardware and software users. It works best for producers working in hip-hop, beat-making, and experimental genres where the aesthetic of vintage equipment and tape compression carries cultural and sonic weight. The sounds pair particularly well with chopped vocal samples and sparse arrangements where individual elements maintain clarity despite their weathered character.
Compared to generic lo-fi libraries, Faded Reels distinguishes itself through meticulous attention to the recording and resampling process rather than applying post-production effects. For experienced producers comfortable working within MPC's ecosystem and seeking authentic analog textures, this expansion delivers genuine utility. It functions most effectively as a starting point rather than a complete production solution, requiring thoughtful arrangement and additional processing to reach finished compositions.
