About this plugin
Native Instruments' R&B Licks expansion delivers a focused toolkit of contemporary R&B loop content integrated into the Leap engine, which functions as a real-time manipulation interface rather than a traditional effects processor. The collection emphasizes warm, groove-oriented textures built around 160 loops spanning bass, guitar, keys, synth, and percussion categories. The sonic palette prioritizes lush harmonic content - notably the 32 piano/keys loops and 24 synth lead loops that anchor modern R&B's characteristic richness - alongside 19 bass loops that establish the foundation most contemporary productions require.
What distinguishes this expansion is the Leap engine's performance-centric approach. Rather than merely triggering loops, users can manipulate pitch, adjust playback speed, and slice loops across the keyboard in real time. The "playful performance effects" referenced here include pitch shifting and time-stretching tools that facilitate both precise musical adjustments and experimental sound design. This makes the expansion suited for producers building tracks live or requiring flexible loop manipulation without stepping outside their DAW.

The 0.39 GB footprint positions this as a lean addition to existing Leap or Komplete installations. R&B Licks works best for producers working in contemporary R&B, neo-soul, or trap-influenced genres who value warm, soulful textures over aggressive or cutting-edge sonics. Compared to broader loop libraries, its genre specificity trades versatility for focused sound design coherence. The expansion justifies its place within Komplete 15 and higher bundles, offering immediate usability without requiring significant additional investment for Komplete subscribers.
