About this plugin
Native Instruments' Rolling Tides expansion captures the textural depth and rhythmic sophistication of liquid drum and bass with meticulous attention to sonic detail. The package delivers a comprehensive toolkit centered on the genre's defining characteristics: crisp, intricate drum breaks paired with warm atmospheric textures that prioritize musicality over aggression.
The expansion excels in its treatment of melodic elements. Ethereal pads and soulful vocal samples provide the harmonic foundation typical of liquid DNB, while the bassline collection ranges from understated, groove-oriented foundations to more assertive low-end statements that maintain clarity at speed. Drum breaks showcase proper compression and swing, avoiding the clinical precision that undermines authenticity in sample-based tools.

Rolling Tides is best suited for producers working in liquid drum and bass, future garage, or adjacent ambient-electronic genres seeking high-quality, production-ready components. The included Maschine and Battery kits offer immediate workflow integration for Native Instruments users, while Massive and Monark presets provide starting points for sound design rather than finished patches. The loop library functions effectively for both initial inspiration and as layering material in complex arrangements.
Compared to competing liquid DNB expansions, Rolling Tides distinguishes itself through careful curation and sonic warmth. It avoids oversaturation while maintaining depth, making individual elements useful in isolation rather than forcing reliance on complete loop stacks. The expansion represents competent execution of a specific aesthetic rather than a genre-defining toolkit, solidifying its position as a reliable resource for established producers rather than a transformative creative tool.
