Product Overview
Native Instruments and Strezov Sampling have developed a comprehensive virtual choir instrument that addresses a significant gap in orchestral and cinematic scoring tools. Omnia captures 40 professional vocalists recorded at Sofia Session Studio, presenting them as editable, combinable sections that span traditional choir ranges from soprano to bass.
The instrument's technical foundation rests on Strezov Sampling's Polyphonic True Legato engine, which automatically manages voice leading and smooth transitions between notes. This solves a persistent problem with sample-based vocal instruments: achieving natural melodic movement without audible switching artifacts. The legato implementation tracks both solo and harmonic lines, making it genuinely playable rather than merely programmable.
The Syllabuilder engine distinguishes Omnia from standard choir libraries. Rather than limiting users to pre-recorded phonemes, it synthesizes new syllables from 16 base units, with configurable morph parameters and multiple round robins. This extends the usable vocabulary substantially and encourages experimentation. Two performance modes - Keys mode for real-time manipulation and Sequence mode for building complex vocal lines - accommodate different compositional workflows.
Omnia is best suited for composers working in film, television, and game audio where choir layering and customization are standard requirements. Its detailed microphone positioning (five selectable perspectives) and comprehensive mixing controls provide genuine flexibility rather than preset rigidity. The characterization and dynamic range justify the investment primarily for users who need nuanced vocal textures beyond what generic choir libraries deliver. For straightforward orchestral parts, simpler solutions may suffice, but for detailed, expressive vocal writing, Omnia represents a purposeful advance in sampled choir technology.
