About this plugin
Stone by Murst Instruments is a texture-focused instrument designed around four complementary sonic layers: Oscillate provides processed vintage synthesizer bass material with germanium fuzz character, Pivot combines closely-miked cello techniques including sustained bowing and granular processing, Fluctuate offers hammer and plucked sources routed through tape machine coloration, and Grain supplies experimental noise and sampled elements for layering depth. The architecture emphasizes immediate tactile control while allowing deeper modulation for those willing to explore.
The instrument's strength lies in its specificity. Rather than serving as a general-purpose synthesizer, Stone targets composers working in film, media, and theatre where textural sophistication and character often matter more than conventional playability. Each bank is individually processed with intention - the cello layer particularly benefits from its close-miked recording approach, capturing genuine bow texture and resonance rather than sanitized sustain patches. The tape machine processing on Fluctuate adds organic harmonic coloration without the complications of genuine tape simulation.

The 20 included presets demonstrate sound design competency, though the real value emerges through experimentation with the front-panel envelope controls and effects sends. The effects processing is substantial enough to reshape sources significantly without becoming a primary tool.
Stone operates within Kontakt Player, which limits customization but ensures broad compatibility. Among comparable layered texture instruments, it occupies a middle ground between specialized single-source tools and comprehensive orchestral libraries. For composers requiring unconventional timbral material with immediate sculpting capabilities, Stone delivers focused utility with genuine character.
