Magicknob Blue functions as an expander-based transient enhancer, delivering upward compression on attack phases up to the 50% mark before transitioning to broadband expansion that lifts the entire signal. Magicknob Red inverts this philosophy, applying compression-based transient control in its first half, then shifting to full-spectrum compression beyond midpoint. Both variants employ a 20ms lookahead window, optional via toggle, that catches peaks before they fully develop, preventing the timing artifacts that plague simpler dynamic processors.

The distinguishing element here is the learning algorithm. Rather than exposing threshold, ratio, and makeup gain controls, users play audio through the track while the plugin analyzes the incoming signal characteristics. The single rotary knob then modulates intensity across the learned envelope, with auto-leveling maintaining relative loudness. An additional harmonic enhancement mode, labeled Transformer, adds subtle saturation or overtone coloration to processed material, increasing density without obvious distortion artifacts.
