PSI Cymbals is a comprehensively sampled cymbal library built within Native Instruments' Kontakt platform, capturing premium hardware from Meinl, Sabian, Dream, and Zildjian across three discrete microphone positions. Loot Audio recorded these instruments in a treated live room using professional-grade gear: Neumann KM184 overheads, a close-positioned Shure SM7B, and Flea 47 and AKG 414 pairs processed through high-end preamps and PRISM converters. The result is a sonically cohesive collection that maintains the natural decay and harmonic complexity of acoustic cymbals without the synthetic quality common to drum sample libraries.
The high hats feature 40 velocity layers across three distinct samples, providing nuanced control over brightness and articulation. Five ride cymbals were recorded with both sticks and soft beaters, capturing the tonal range from cutting articulation to warm, mellow sustain. The crash section includes crashes, chinas, splashes, and an electrostack - each delivered with full spatial information across the three mic positions, allowing users to blend close, overhead, and room perspectives to taste.
This library suits producers and engineers seeking authentic cymbal textures for electronic music production, film scoring, or hybrid arrangements where sample-based percussion is preferred to live recording. The multi-mic approach affords practical mixing flexibility; the close mic delivers punch and definition, the overheads provide air and space, and the room channel adds ambience and character. PSI Cymbals occupies a middle ground between minimal sample packs and prohibitively expensive full drum libraries, offering genuine production value for users invested in Kontakt's ecosystem.
