About this plugin
Barbarian Cello stands as a meticulously sampled virtual instrument designed to capture the raw, uninhibited character of the cello across its full range. Loot Audio has engineered this library with particular attention to extended bowing techniques, departing from the polished, refined approach typical of orchestral sampling libraries. The instrument excels at delivering both lyrical and aggressive articulations with authentic textural variation.
The standout technical feature is the rebowing engine, which cycles through up to five variations per note during extended passages. This approach effectively eliminates the repetitive artifacts that plague less sophisticated instruments when performing rapid bow sequences. Transitions between notes are handled through dual legato systems: standard transitions recorded across full octave ranges for smooth melodic movement, and faster transitions spanning perfect fourths designed specifically for ornamental passages and runs.

The articulation set is comprehensive, spanning from harmonics and flautando through multiple swell types and spiccato variations featuring twelve round robins across five dynamic layers. Both sustain and short articulations include soft and hard attack options, allowing subtle control over note onset character. The short articulations are phrase-extracted, which promotes natural sequencing rather than sterile sample recall.
The interface offers practical flexibility through keyswitch, split mode, and traditional CC mapping approaches, accommodating various workflow preferences. Barbarian Cello serves producers and composers working in contemporary classical, film scoring, and hybrid electronic contexts where cello texture must convey intensity and presence without sacrificing believability. It occupies a distinct position between orchestral libraries and extended technique specialists, making it particularly valuable for those requiring both versatility and character.
