About this plugin
Loopmasters' Jazz Master collection represents a focused approach to bass sound design, with the upright bass edition capturing the tonal character of a traditionally miked acoustic instrument. Rather than attempting comprehensive modeling, this plugin delivers processed samples from Ashley John Long's instrument, applying subtle effects processing and tone shaping to create a coherent sonic palette suitable for jazz, neo-soul, and contemporary instrumental contexts.
The plugin's strength lies in its straightforward utility. The upright bass samples maintain their acoustic character while offering enough processing options to integrate seamlessly into modern productions. The tone controls are intuitive, allowing producers to shift between warmer, woody responses and tighter, more focused articulation. Velocity mapping feels natural across the range, and the samples themselves avoid the pitch artifacts that plague lesser sampler-based instruments.

This tool occupies a specific niche between full modeled instruments like Native Instruments' Scarbee and purely acoustic sample libraries. It's best suited for producers seeking authentic upright bass tones without deep sound design requirements. Genre-wise, it excels in jazz fusion, hip-hop instrumentals, and electronic music seeking organic low-end texture.
Compared to competitors, Jazz Master delivers reliable, musical results without unnecessary complexity. It won't replace dedicated bass synthesizers or comprehensive sampling platforms, but for sessions requiring quick, credible upright bass contributions, it provides genuine value. The sample quality reflects Loopmasters' production standards, and Long's technique is evident throughout the velocity layers.
