About this plugin
Defected Percussion - Shovell represents a focused entry in Loopmasters' effects catalogue, designed specifically to process percussive material with surgical precision. The plugin functions as a multi-stage processor that combines transient shaping, spectral filtering, and harmonic manipulation to extract or suppress attack characteristics while simultaneously sculpting tonal color across the frequency spectrum.
The core strength lies in its approach to percussive decay control. Rather than simple envelope manipulation, Shovell analyzes incoming transients and allows independent treatment of attack and sustain phases. This proves particularly valuable for drum processing where control engineers need to increase perceived impact without lengthening tail artifacts, or conversely, to strip aggression from samples destined for texture layering.

The harmonic content tools operate through a series of resonant filter stages that feel intuitive despite their technical depth. Processing remains musical across drum breaks, one-shot samples, and pitched percussion without the phase-cancellation artifacts that plague less sophisticated tools in this category. Loopmasters has tuned the default settings conservatively, allowing producers to work from a neutral palette rather than fighting through excessive presets.
This plugin positions itself alongside specialized percussive processors like FabFilter's Pro-MB and iZotope's Ozone Dynamic EQ, though with narrower focus and consequently cleaner operation for its intended task. The relatively low CPU footprint makes it practical for dense drum arrangements. Suitable for electronic music production, sample manipulation, and mixing contexts where percussive elements demand individual attention without full-chain processing overhead.
