About this plugin
Leapwing Audio's Joe Chiccarelli plugin distills decades of production work from a ten-time Grammy winner into a streamlined, source-specific processor. Rather than attempting a universal signature sound, the plugin offers 11 discrete profiles targeting common recording sources: drums (kick, snare, toms, overhead, room), bass (DI and amp), guitars (acoustic and electric), electric piano, and lead vocal.
Each profile implements a signal chain derived from analysis of Chiccarelli's actual gear and session workflows. The architecture addresses his characteristic approach: moderate to aggressive harmonic shaping through drive controls, surgical EQ, single-band compression, parallel compression for density, and reverb or modulation effects. This isn't subtle coloration. It's a deliberate sonic intervention that adds presence, aggression, and cohesion to sources.

The plugin succeeds where it aims. The kick profile thickens low-end fundamentals while adding upper-midrange snap. Snare processing adds ring and body. Vocal profiles introduce just enough character and parallel compression to sit forward in a mix without sounding obviously processed. The control architecture avoids overwhelming users with options while providing access to detailed adjustments when needed.
This tool suits producers and engineers who either respect Chiccarelli's aesthetic or want a starting point faster than building chains from scratch. It's particularly useful for those mixing in the alternative rock and contemporary pop-rock spaces where his catalog dominates. While not transformative for engineers seeking radically different sonic territory, it delivers what it promises: a recognized, professional voice applied consistently across your mix.
