About this plugin
KV331 Audio's SynthMaster 3 represents a significant departure from its predecessor, introducing a modular architecture that positions it among the more flexible synthesis platforms available today. The upgrade path from SynthMaster 2 provides access to 16 independent layers, each accommodating up to 16 modules arranged freely within a signal flow system. This flexibility distinguishes it from preset-bound competitors.
The synthesis engine encompasses seven distinct generator types - Basic, Additive, Vector, Wavetable, VAnalog, and Granular oscillators plus a dedicated Modulator - allowing designers to stack complementary synthesis methods within single instances. The filter section spans ten topologies, including emulations of classic circuits like the Ladder and Diode Ladder alongside modern options like Bite and Formant filters. Each layer supports 32 modulation sources via ADSR envelopes, multistage envelopes, and multiple LFO variants.

The architecture feels intuitive for experienced synthesizer users, though the depth may overwhelm producers accustomed to simpler instruments. Signal routing visualization provides clear feedback on patch construction, reducing guesswork during complex designs. Backward compatibility with SynthMaster One and Two presets ensures existing investments remain viable.
SynthMaster 3 suits sound designers pursuing custom synthesis work and producers who value deep control over preset reliance. The 850 factory presets, designed by accomplished sound designers, serve as solid starting points. For those invested in SynthMaster 2, the upgrade delivers genuine expansion in sonic possibilities without requiring complete relearning. It remains best suited for users comfortable diving into synthesis rather than those seeking quick creative solutions.
