About this plugin
Ferrum stands as a comprehensive trailer percussion instrument built on meticulous sound design rather than synthesis or processing gimmicks. Developed by Keepforest through producers Vladislav Martirosov and Arseni Khodzin, the plugin delivers over 1500 individually sampled percussion elements organized across 23 patches, with each note offering up to 16 round-robin variations and multiple microphone positions. This redundancy proves essential for cinematic work where repetitive strikes become immediately fatiguing to the ear.
The sonic palette spans the full spectrum of impact-based percussion. Sub booms provide low-end weight, metallic hits offer brightness and articulation, and organic elements ground the sound in physical reality. The round-robin sampling across trailer percussion, rolls, cymbals, and metallic foley ensures convincing performances without artificial looping artifacts. Trailer stems and layered components allow for custom blending, a valuable feature for producers seeking tonal specificity.

The instrument architecture emphasizes workflow efficiency. An internal step sequencer handles rhythm construction, while the Quick Stage Placement module provides spatial positioning without external convolution. The effects rack permits basic sound shaping, though experienced engineers will likely route Ferrum through external processing for serious mixing tasks.
Ferrum occupies a defined niche within trailer and cinematic music production. It serves composers seeking production-ready percussion without deep sample curation or those needing rapid iteration during sketch phases. The plugin runs on the free Kontakt Player, eliminating licensing friction. While specialized sound design libraries exist, Ferrum's breadth of curated samples and engineering-focused features make it a practical centerpiece for impact-driven composition rather than a novelty tool.
