About this plugin
Equinox represents iZotope's consolidation of Exponential Audio's Stratus and Symphony reverb engines into a unified plugin, making it a logical upgrade path for owners of either predecessor. The plugin combines the realistic spatial modeling of Stratus with Symphony's creative algorithmic capabilities, eliminating the need to switch between two separate tools for different reverb applications.
The technical standout is iZotope's integration of adaptive dynamic unmasking technology, borrowed from their Aurora and Cascadia processors. This approach actively carves space for reverb tails without requiring manual sidechain setup, addressing a persistent challenge in dense mixes where reverb obscures dialogue, lead vocals, and critical instruments. The unmasking operates intelligently across frequency ranges rather than applying blanket ducking.

For post-production work, this proves particularly valuable. Dialog remains intelligible while maintaining spatial context, and the system adapts in real time to changing source material. Music producers benefit from the streamlined preset library, which consolidates over 1250 presets from both engines with improved browsing and keyword-based search functionality. The macro tone controls allow meaningful tonal adjustment without requiring deep parameter diving.
Equinox occupies a middle ground between transparent spatial tools like FabFilter Pro-R and characterful options like Valhalla's reverbs. It's strongest for mixing engineers who need reliable, professional results across both music and post work without maintaining separate plugin ecosystems. The crossgrade pricing rewards existing Stratus or Symphony users, though the unified interface and enhanced unmasking justify the upgrade for active production environments.
