About this plugin
Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II represents a significant advancement in convolution-based room modeling, moving beyond static impulse response libraries to deliver spatially aware reverb that adapts to source positioning. Built on IK Multimedia's Volumetric Response Modeling technology, the plugin captures 336 stereo impulse responses across Sunset Sound's three live rooms, with up to 27 discrete source locations per space. Crucially, these positions are individually captured rather than interpolated, preserving the acoustic irregularities that define authentic room sound - boundary reinforcement, early reflection shifts, and natural spatial perspective remain intact.
The dual-engine architecture enables sophisticated layering workflows. You can run two independent reverb processors in parallel, combining any of the available acoustic spaces - live rooms, chambers, iso booths, EMT plates, and AKG spring reverbs - each with independent EQ and routing. Studios 1 and 3 include variable acoustic dampening modeling movable absorption panels, allowing real-time adjustment of decay and tonal balance without recapturing.

The plugin offers both directional and omnidirectional sound source modes for physically accurate envelopment, plus advanced size control to expand or contract spaces with precision. Per-channel EQ and true 3D positioning complete the toolkit.
This is essential for producers and engineers seeking authentic large-room character without the limitations of static convolution reverbs. Compared to competitors, the discrete positioning system and dual-engine design provide genuine spatial flexibility. Best suited for mixing, tracking overdubs, and mastering work where vintage studio character matters, though the learning curve requires some sonic exploration to optimize results.
