About this plugin
IK Multimedia's Comprexxor stands as a comprehensive dynamic processing tool that synthesizes the flexibility of multiple classic analog compressor topologies into a single plugin architecture. The eight selectable ratio curves represent both historically accurate emulations and theoretical designs, each with independent threshold settings ranging from transparent 1:1 unity gain through to aggressive brick-wall limiting. This breadth of compression character - from subtle glue to aggressive control - makes Comprexxor genuinely useful across mix bus duties, individual track processing, and creative sound design applications.
The plugin's optical compressor mode proves particularly effective for sources benefiting from the musical lag and soft-knee characteristics inherent to that technology. Meanwhile, the sidechain section's high-pass and band-pass filtering capabilities allow surgical frequency-specific compression, a feature that justifies its inclusion for serious mix engineers confronting complex dynamic challenges.

Beyond compression, Comprexxor functions as a harmonic saturation tool. The selectable 2nd order (tube-like) and 3rd order (tape-like) color circuits offer genuine tonal shaping, while the distortion-focused GB mode provides immediate character injection when needed. This versatility transforms the plugin from compressor into a multi-purpose tone shaper.
Comprexxor appeals to engineers and producers seeking a single dynamic processor capable of handling classical compression duties alongside creative coloration. The interface demands some familiarity with compression topology to unlock its potential, positioning it toward intermediate and advanced users rather than beginners. Within the modern plugin landscape of specialized tools, Comprexxor's broad sonic palette and thoughtful feature integration justify its presence on any engineer's template.
