About this plugin
The OB-E represents a technically rigorous software interpretation of the Oberheim 8-Voice synthesizer, one of the most distinctive polyphonic instruments of the 1980s. Rather than treating the original as a monolithic design to approximate, GForce has modeled the instrument's core architecture: eight discrete SEM modules, each containing dual VCOs with pulse and sawtooth outputs, individual ADS envelopes, and access to the characteristic multi-mode filter that defined the 8-Voice's presence and warmth. This octaphonic approach yields genuine polyphonic depth without resorting to simple voice stacking.
The plugin distinguishes itself through thoughtful augmentation. A third VCO per module functions as an audio-rate modulation source, expanding harmonic possibilities beyond the original hardware's constraints. Velocity sensitivity, polyphonic aftertouch, and MPE support add expressive dimension while keyboard modes - mono, legato, poly, unison, and split - provide practical workflow flexibility. The implementation benefits from collaboration with Tom Oberheim himself and Marcus Ryle, an engineer integral to the original design, ensuring sonic fidelity without compromise.

The OB-E suits producers and sound designers seeking characterful polyphonic synthesis with genuine analog-era warmth. Its filter possesses the subtle non-linearity that defines Oberheim's sonic signature, while the octaphonic architecture enables lush ensemble textures that contrast sharply with the homogeneity of many modern virtual instruments. For those prioritizing authentic tonal character over surgical precision, the OB-E occupies a singular position in contemporary soft synth design.
