About this plugin
TAKUMI Audio Plugins' KOTO is a meticulously sampled recreation of both 13 and 17-string traditional Japanese zithers, designed for composers and sound designers seeking authentic orchestral textures or experimental sonic material. The instrument captures the instrument's characteristic warm, resonant timbre with sufficient detail to integrate seamlessly into both acoustic and hybrid productions.
The plugin's architecture centers on extensive articulation control via keyswitch mapping across C1 to A1, providing access to tsume sustain, finger picking, staccato variations, mutes, tremolo, vibrato, and pitch bends. This articulation depth distinguishes KOTO from surface-level ethnic sample libraries, enabling genuine performance nuance rather than static loops. The dual-model switching between 13 and 17-string configurations offers tonal flexibility, with the 17-string variant providing extended harmonic complexity.

A noteworthy inclusion is the HUMANIZE function, which introduces realistic performance irregularities to counter the mechanical quality that plagues many sample instruments. This becomes essential when layering KOTO with other sampled elements or when seeking authentic solo work.
KOTO occupies a specific but valuable niche: it exceeds the depth of general orchestral libraries while maintaining the fidelity required for serious compositional work. It suits film composers, video game developers, and electronic musicians exploring cultural instrumentation. Compared to competing ethnic sample collections, TAKUMI's attention to articulation variety and sampling resolution positions this plugin as a serious choice for professionals demanding both authenticity and playability rather than novelty.
