About this plugin
KLANG's Clashing Rails plugin represents a purposeful integration of authentic field recordings with controlled processing, designed specifically for producers seeking to incorporate industrial sonic textures into their work. The instrument samples authentic locomotive and rail yard environments - the mechanical grinding of wheels on tracks, coupling impacts, and pneumatic brake releases - then processes these recordings through a vintage construction-site compressor model.
The sonic character leans heavily into mid-range aggression and low-frequency rumble, with the compression adding a distinctive industrial squash that emphasizes transient complexity while gluing disparate recordings into cohesive textures. This approach yields results distinctly different from synthesized or heavily processed alternatives, retaining the organic spatial characteristics captured during recording while benefiting from deliberate studio treatment.

The plugin functions best as a textural layer rather than a standalone element. Experimental producers, sound designers for film and games, and contemporary classical composers will find the most immediate applications, though electronic producers working in industrial, techno, and ambient genres have successfully incorporated these sounds as rhythmic or atmospheric foundations. The recordings' inherent unpredictability makes them particularly valuable for breaking predictable arrangements.
Compared to similar field recording libraries, Clashing Rails distinguishes itself through its pre-processing chain and Kontakt integration, which allows straightforward layering and parameter adjustment within existing production workflows. The compressor treatment prevents the raw recordings from sounding overly documentary-like, striking a balance between authenticity and musicality that experienced producers will recognize as distinctly curated rather than arbitrary.
