About this plugin
Lifeline Comp stands as a versatile dynamics processor built squarely on the principle that different sources demand different compression approaches. Rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all character onto every signal, Excite Audio has implemented three distinct algorithms that address genuine production needs: Analogue models the behavior of classic hardware units with tonal coloration and gentle knee characteristics, Transparent delivers clean peak control without obvious artifacts, and Variable employs input-dependent response curves particularly suited to vocals, bus glue, and mastering work where dynamic behavior must adapt to changing source material.
The control set is straightforward and purposeful. Threshold, Ratio, Attack, and Release provide the essentials without unnecessary complexity. The standout feature is the Auto-Makeup gain function, which eliminates the guesswork of compensating for reduction by analyzing average signal level and applying appropriate gain automatically. This practical inclusion saves workflow time while ensuring consistent output levels across different sources.

Mid-Side and Left-Right stereo processing opens creative possibilities for controlling stereo image without collapsing the mix, while the integrated bandpass filter allows frequency-specific compression without resorting to separate tools. The parallel dry-wet blend accommodates both serial and New York style approaches within a single instance.
Zero latency operation means Lifeline Comp works equally well on tracking, mixing, and mastering duties. The 50 included presets provide reasonable starting points, though the control architecture remains transparent enough that users can develop personal preferences quickly. For engineers seeking compression with genuine character options rather than a single fixed sonic signature, Lifeline Comp delivers professional results across diverse production scenarios.
