About this plugin
Ancient Kingdom stands as a distinctive entry in EastWest Sounds' virtual instrument catalog, combining multi-tracked recordings of rare ethnographic wind instruments with an aggressive signal processing approach. Recorded by virtuoso Saulius Petreikis and produced by Doug Rogers and Nick Phoenix, the library captures instruments sourced globally with meticulous multi-microphone technique, then routes these pristine sources through four parallel effect signal paths designed to obscure rather than clarify the acoustic origins.
The plugin's sonic character emerges from its unconventional processing philosophy. Rather than prioritizing transparency, Ancient Kingdom deliberately colors its sources through tube saturation, rotating speaker simulation, megaphone processing, and vibration enhancement across separate channels. This approach yields results ranging from subtly textured traditional applications to heavily abstracted textures suitable for experimental composition and sound design. The degree of departure from source material depends entirely on user mixing and routing decisions within the Right Panel's effect engine, which includes convolution reverb options and flexible channel configuration.

The interface demonstrates thoughtful design considerations. A central display presents 3D instrument models within stylized landscape environments, while the Left Panel organizes performance controls, mood presets, and articulation selection. MIDI mapping proves comprehensive for dynamic real-time control. Convolution reverb integration allows contextual space definition without introducing additional plugins.
Ancient Kingdom appeals most directly to film composers, ambient producers, and sound designers seeking distinctive textural material rather than authentic acoustic representation. For traditional world music applications or sample-accurate ethnographic documentation, alternative libraries offer more neutral positioning. Within experimental contexts, however, this plugin's aggressive character and layered processing depth justify exploration.
