About this plugin
EastWest's Hollywood Collection represents a comprehensive orchestral toolkit built on decades of film scoring practice and archive recordings from professional Hollywood sessions. The library consolidates the company's flagship orchestral, choir, and solo instruments into a single integrated environment, distinguishing itself through the inclusion of the Hollywood Orchestrator - an arrangement engine that generates full orchestrations from user-input melodic or harmonic parts.
The sonic character prioritizes cinematic clarity and blend, with particular strength in legato string writing and articulation depth across brass and woodwinds. The Fantasy series adds unconventional textures and processing designed for non-naturalistic scoring contexts. Percussion recordings derive from actual scoring stage sessions, lending appropriate room ambience and mic placement for film work.

The collection suits film, television, and game composers seeking a self-contained orchestral solution without managing multiple third-party libraries. The Orchestrator feature holds specific value for producers working under deadline constraints or those seeking intelligent voice-leading suggestions for orchestration. Solo instruments - cello, violin, and harp - provide realistic alternatives to VST alternatives from other developers.
Among comparable tools, Hollywood Collection occupies middle ground between sample-library depth and genuine orchestral synthesis, trading some customization capability for faster workflow integration. The Orchestrator's effectiveness varies with input quality, requiring musically coherent source material to produce usable results. Industry adoption remains strong among Hollywood-adjacent composers, though competitive offerings from Spitfire and other developers have narrowed technical advantages in recent years. The library suits established workflows more readily than it serves as a complete orchestral alternative for engineers approaching orchestration conceptually.
