About this plugin
Cloudmax 3 Upgrade represents a meaningful refinement of Karanyi Sounds' granular texture engine, delivering substantive improvements to the reverb architecture and modulation capabilities that justify consideration for existing users. The core four-engine granular processor remains the plugin's foundation, capable of generating everything from crystalline shimmer to heavily smeared vocal textures through independent grain manipulation across pitch, length, and modulation parameters.
The upgraded reverb engine distinguishes itself here. Both the Cirrus and Stratos algorithms benefit from significantly enhanced DSP, with Cirrus delivering noticeably longer and more articulate decay characteristics suitable for cinematic work, while Stratos provides the tighter reflections necessary for contemporary production. This dual-reverb approach avoids the one-size-fits-all compromise common in granular tools.

Cloudmax 3's redesigned LFO and automation system proves genuinely useful rather than cosmetic. The ability to modulate multiple parameters from a single designable source - assigning modulation to grain length, filter, and resonator pitch simultaneously - accomplishes what previously required multiple automation lanes. For producers working with rhythmic material, the expanded cloud model library bridges the gap between ambient texture and percussive definition more effectively than the previous iterations.
The landscape mode interface, while appreciated, functions best as a creative tool rather than daily workflow solution. The single macro remains the fastest control method for real-time manipulation.
Cloudmax 3 Upgrade is best suited for sound designers and producers already familiar with the platform who prioritize reverb quality and modulation depth. It's a solid incremental update rather than a revolutionary redesign.
