About this plugin
The +10db Compressor V2 is a software emulation of a legendary tube compressor that shaped the sound of recorded music for decades. Rather than chase trend-chasing hardware modeling, Boz Digital Labs partnered with producer David Bendeth to authentically capture the sonic character of an icon from his personal studio rack. The result is a plugin that delivers the warm, musical compression heard across countless classic recordings, from Led Zeppelin's drums to countless rock and pop records, without requiring a five-figure hardware investment.
What distinguishes this compressor is its faithful adherence to the original unit's response. The attack and release characteristics feel organic and musically intuitive, sitting instruments into a mix with a gentle hand rather than clinical precision. The compression imparts a subtle coloration that flatters vocals, drums, and bass particularly well, a function of both its gain reduction topology and the harmonic characteristics of its tube-based design.

The V2 iteration includes practical additions absent from the original hardware. A dry passthrough control enables parallel compression workflows directly within the plugin, eliminating the need for auxiliary bus setup. This proves invaluable for maintaining transient definition while adding compression's cohesive character underneath.
Suited for mixing engineers seeking authentic vintage character and producers tracking vocals or drums who want transparent yet characterful gain reduction, the +10db Compressor V2 occupies a specific and useful niche. It's not a transparent mastering compressor nor a surgical tool for detailed control. Rather, it's a workhorse that captures the way professional studios have shaped tone for generations, now accessible in plugin form.
