About this plugin
Black Rooster Audio's Edelweiss '72 is a comprehensive mixing channel strip that consolidates four essential processing stages into a single plugin architecture. The signal flow begins with an expander module designed to increase dynamic range before spectral processing, followed by a five-band equalizer offering both stereo and mid-side operation modes with linear phase capabilities to eliminate phase distortion. The final stage employs a compressor/limiter with integrated auto-gain and makeup controls, completing a workflow that mirrors professional analog console design.
The plugin's technical approach emphasizes surgical precision across its 17 independent bypass and solo options, enabling granular control during critical mixing decisions. Its metering suite proves particularly valuable, incorporating K-weighted scales (K-12, K-14, K-20) alongside phase correlation and stereo balance monitoring that provide accurate visual feedback for both dynamic range adjustments and spectral balance.

Edelweiss '72 occupies genuine territory alongside established competitors like SSL's channel strips. The combination of linear phase EQ and competent dynamic control addresses contemporary mixing standards where phase relationships matter significantly in dense arrangements. The expander-first topology distinguishes it from more conventional strips, offering preparatory dynamics shaping before equalization.
This plugin suits experienced engineers and mastering professionals seeking reliable, transparent channel processing without coloration. It functions equally well as a mixing tool on individual tracks or a final summing stage. The comprehensive metering and surgical design justify its positioning as a tool for producers who prioritize accuracy and technical control over creative distortion or coloration.
