About this plugin
The Dunnett Ti expansion captures Ronn Dunnett's hand-built titanium drum shells with uncommon sonic precision. Titanium drums possess a distinctive acoustic signature - bright, punchy, and unusually cutting across the frequency spectrum compared to maple or birch alternatives. This expansion preserves that character through multimic recording across kick, tom, and snare elements, with particular attention paid to the crucial Amb3 channel.
The Amb3 microphone feed proves the technical centerpiece here. Rather than simple room mics, this channel routes through a Sovtek Mig 60 tube guitar amplifier and Marshall 4x12 cabinet, captured with matched Royer 122 ribbon microphones in Blumlein stereo configuration. This approach adds harmonic complexity and controlled distortion characteristics that lend weight and presence without sounding artificial or heavily processed. It's a deliberate sonic choice that distinguishes this kit from sterile, purely close-miked drum libraries.

The kit itself comprises two kicks with felt and wood beater variants, five toms spanning usable ranges, and a complete snare with cymbal complement. The 5-tom configuration allows textural variation across drum parts, essential for contemporary production work.
Dunnett Ti suits engineers seeking premium titanium drum character within controlled studio environments. It integrates seamlessly with other BFD expansions recorded across different locations, indicating thoughtful spectral balancing. This expansion appeals primarily to producers and engineers who understand titanium's sonic properties and value the additional harmonic dimensionality the amp-miked Amb3 channel introduces. It represents serious drum sound design tooling rather than general-purpose percussion sampling.
