About this plugin
Fog Convolver 2 represents a substantial leap forward for AudioThing's convolution reverb platform, rebuilt entirely from the ground up with architecture that addresses real-world production demands. The plugin implements true stereo convolution, allowing independent loading of two impulse responses or a single stereo/quad-channel IR, with five routing modes (single, serial, parallel, parallel mix, and true stereo) that accommodate everything from transparent space simulation to creative layering.
The modulation framework proves particularly valuable for producers seeking movement beyond static reverb tails. Each impulse receives dual LFOs with ten waveform options and eighteen modulation destinations, enabling subtle shimmer effects or pronounced rhythmic processing depending on taste. Integrated multi-mode filtering with pre, IR, and post insertion points provides surgical control over frequency content, while the five-band graphic EQ handles broader tonal shaping.

What distinguishes Fog Convolver 2 from competitors is its practical flexibility. The drag-and-drop workflow accepts any WAV or AIFF file, removing friction from workflow. The built-in impulse response generator eliminates dependency on sourcing external IRs, useful for sound design or rapid experimentation. AudioThing's bundled library totals over 660 impulse responses sourced from diverse origins: vintage gear, acoustic spaces, synthesizers, and the OpenAIR database.
For engineers and producers balancing sonic authenticity with creative control, Fog Convolver 2 occupies a practical middle ground - deeper modulation capabilities than surgical convolution tools, more transparent processing than lo-fi reverb simulators. The upgrade justifies consideration for Fog Convolver 1 owners seeking enhanced modulation and routing flexibility.
