About this plugin
Audiority's LDC2 is a meticulously modeled optical dynamics processor that combines compression and expansion in a single, cohesive interface. The plugin authentically recreates the sonic signatures of classic optical limiters through 17 selectable circuit models, allowing users to dial in the specific character of legendary studio hardware without committing to a single topology.
The compression stage operates at a fixed 4:1 ratio with up to 40dB of gain reduction, while the expansion circuit provides 3:1 ratio expansion with 30dB of reduction capability. This dual-stage approach enables sophisticated dynamics shaping - compressing peaks while simultaneously expanding the noise floor - a workflow particularly valuable for vocal processing and mastering applications where transparent yet musical control is essential.

What distinguishes the LDC2 is its analog modeling architecture, built on a diode-based preamplifier and solid-state output stage that infuses processing with the harmonic warmth characteristic of vintage tube-era compressors. Independent side-chain controls, including both gain adjustment and high-pass filtering, provide the precision needed for surgical dynamic correction or creative parallel processing techniques.
The plugin excels in tracking scenarios where natural, real-time compression is critical, as well as in mixing and mastering contexts demanding transparent dynamics without artifacts. Engineers working across genres - from jazz and classical to contemporary pop - will appreciate the tonal flexibility the circuit models provide.
Among software companders, the LDC2 stands apart for its commitment to authentic optical modeling rather than generic algorithms, making it a genuine alternative to hardware units for those prioritizing sonic integrity over feature count.
