About this plugin
Ugritone's Assault Drums captures the distinctive character of 1970s drum recordings with uncommon authenticity. Rather than modeling individual drums, the plugin samples three kick drums, three snares, and dual tom sets from the era's most sought-after hardware - Mapex Saturn, Tama Rockstar, and Peavey International kits - paired with period-appropriate Zildjian and Sabian cymbals. This hardware-specific approach preserves the natural resonance and decay characteristics that define vintage rock recordings, avoiding the clinical sterility common to purely synthesized drum tools.
The sonic palette spans convincingly from garage rock and punk through hard rock and disco, with seven genre-focused presets developed through considerable studio time. The 1972 UK Rock and 1978 American Rock presets offer distinct regional tonal signatures, while specialized patches like Disco Inferno and Natural Snappy provide focused starting points for specific production contexts. At approximately 580 MB, the sample library strikes a practical balance between sonic depth and system efficiency.

Assault Drums proves most valuable for producers seeking authentic 70s aesthetics without resorting to sample layering or extensive processing chains. Engineers working in retro-informed rock, indie, and alternative contexts will find the kit's aggressive character - reflected in the product name - particularly useful for contemporary productions requiring period credibility. While specialized drum samplers demand more hands-on customization, Assault Drums prioritizes immediate usability and sonic cohesion, making it accessible to those with limited drum programming experience while offering sufficient flexibility for detailed mixing work.
