About this plugin
Arturia's Rev SPRING-636 delivers a meticulously modeled emulation of the Grampian 636 spring reverb, the workhorse unit favored by Pete Townshend and Lee Scratch Perry throughout the classic rock and reggae eras. The plugin captures what made hardware spring reverbs enduringly valuable: a characterful, physical resonance that sits naturally in a mix without the clinical precision of digital reverb algorithms.
The core engine uses Arturia's TAE and Phi modeling technologies to reconstruct both the electronic circuitry and the mechanical behavior of the spring tank itself. True Analog Emulation handles the signal path and gain staging, while the Phi component addresses how the spring physically responds to transients and sustain. This dual approach yields convincing decay patterns and a natural color that distinguishes it from algorithmic alternatives.

The inclusion of multiple spring tank models reflects a key advantage of the hardware lineage: each original unit possessed distinct sonic characteristics. This flexibility allows users to dial in anything from bright, articulate reflections to thick, booming resonance depending on source material and aesthetic preference. The germanium drive input stage adds another layer of character, enabling saturation that ranges from subtle warmth to pronounced distortion when pushed.
Rev SPRING-636 serves producers and engineers working across rock, reggae, dub, and pop contexts where vintage spring character is essential rather than decorative. For those seeking authentic period-appropriate reverb without hardware maintenance concerns, or as a complement to existing spring tank units, it represents a technically rigorous solution that respects both the original design and modern production workflows.
