About this plugin
Arturia's Comp FET-76 is a software emulation of the 1176 Limiting Amplifier, the solid-state FET compressor that defined dynamic control in professional studios since its introduction in 1967. Using Arturia's TAE circuit modeling technology, the plugin reconstructs the signal path and component behavior of an original hardware unit, capturing both the functional compression characteristics and the subtle harmonic coloration that made the 1176 indispensable across decades of hit records.
The plugin's sonic signature derives from its Field Effect Transistor gain reduction circuit combined with a Class A output amplifier. Even at modest compression settings, this architecture imparts a gentle saturation and presence boost that enhances vocal clarity and instrument punch without obvious artifacts. Pushing the input harder or engaging higher ratios reveals the compressor's character more overtly, making it equally capable of transparent leveling and aggressive tone shaping. The all-buttons-in mode, where all ratio switches engage simultaneously, produces the distinctive aggressive sound heard on countless drum tracks and bass recordings.

Comp FET-76 suits any engineer seeking the sonic footprint of a classic FET compressor without hardware investment or rack space. Vocals, drums, bass, and full mixes all benefit from its fast attack capability and musical response to transients. While software FET emulations have proliferated, this implementation's fidelity to the original circuit and Arturia's meticulous modeling provide a credible alternative to expensive vintage units or modern boutique hardware recreations. It functions as both a surgical dynamic tool and a deliberate tone processor.
