About this plugin
Antelope Audio's Tubechild670 is a meticulously modeled emulation of the Fairchild 670, the vari-mu tube compressor that defined the sonic character of countless canonical recordings from The Beatles to contemporary pop and metal productions. Rather than relying on algorithmic approximation, the developers physically deconstructed an original unit and measured its 20 matched vacuum tubes and 14 vintage transformers, then digitally recreated the non-linear behavior of each component to preserve the hardware's distinctive character.
The Fairchild 670's approach to compression differs fundamentally from modern VCA or FET designs. Its vari-mu topology produces a characteristically smooth, musical response where multiple gain reduction tubes work in parallel, creating an inherent glue that tightens mixes without drawing attention to itself. The extensive tube and transformer signal path imparts a subtle harmonic richness and tonal warmth that has made the hardware original indispensable for vocals, buses, and sources requiring organic leveling with density and presence.

Tubechild670 includes six timing curve selections that replicate the original's flexible attack and release options, allowing engineers to dial in anything from transparent level control to pronounced transient shaping. The plugin is particularly suited for mix engineers seeking the signature character that defined the Abbey Road sound and mixed-source compression on full mixes where transparency and musicality matter equally.
As the most accurate software recreation available, Tubechild670 represents a practical alternative to hardware ownership for professionals who understand that the Fairchild's value extends beyond its specifications into its irreplaceable sonic signature.
